Charles Edward Springer Jr. passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2020. He was 57.
Mr. Springer of Norristown was employed at the Silver Silver Springs - Martin Luther Spring school.
Charles was a well known and loved wrestling coach in the local youth, middle and high school programs. He founded the Norristown PAL youth wresting club. He often found ways to allow the young wrestlers in the Norristown area to travel with elite teams and discover educational opportunities that sports could open up for them.
He was the Area XI Chairman for Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling. . At the annual area tournament, it became a tradition for any kid that qualified for the state tournament to hear Coach Springer announce to the entire gym "Congratulations, you're going to states!!!"
He also coached the Norristown Area Bandits football organization's 65lb team, but when not on the sideline coaching you could hear him from the press box. He passionately announced the games with his unique catch phrases and reminded everyone that there were trash cans throughout the premises and corn dogs at the snack stand.
Chuck was probably best know for his story telling abilities. He could often be found at a football game or wrestling tournament with a whole circle of people around him as he was telling one of his famous stories.
