Jerome Chamberlain Obituary

Jerome Patton Chamberlain (June 5, 1929 — March 2, 2021)
Jerome “Jerry” Chamberlain, age 91, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning at The Meadows at Shannondell in Audubon PA. He was born and raised in Peru, IN and graduated from Indiana University with a degree in Broadcast Journalism. Jerry was also a member of the swim team at IU. There, he met Sarah Williams Chamberlain whom he married in 1955. They remained married for nearly 60 years until her passing in 2013. Jerry served in the United States Army where he was a small firearms repair instructor at Fort Lee, VA during the Korean War. Afterwards, he worked at both radio and television stations in Richmond, VA. He later worked at WCAU-TV in Philadelphia, PA from 1962–1976. There, he directed the 6:00 and 11:00 evening news, as well as the long running children’s program, “The Gene London Show.” He also served as an assistant director for Philadelphia Eagles games during this period. He then completed his Master’s Degree from the New School for Social Research in NYC, and from 1977–1999 was a Professor of Television Production at William Patterson University in Wayne, New Jersey.

Jerry was an avid reader and would often serve as an encyclopedia of information on a variety of subjects to friends and family. One of his great loves was jazz, particularly the jazz standards of the Great American Songbook. He was a member of the New Jersey Jazz Society and frequented performances throughout northern New Jersey. Jerry was also an avid sailor and especially enjoyed sailing his Sunfish sailboat. He was also a member of the Packanack Lake Yacht Club in Wayne, NJ.
Jerry will be remembered for his kind, reserved demeanor, his sense of humor, his keen intellect, charm, and his love of people. Lastly, although he had a career devoted to television, he most of all stressed the value of the printed word.

He is survived by his son, John Chamberlain, daughter-in-law Isabela Chamberlain, and granddaughters, Sarah H. Chamberlain and Emilee Roxas-Perry of Montgomery County, MD; his son, Scott Chamberlain, daughter-in-law Stacey Chamberlain, and grandson Collin Chamberlain of Chester County, PA. The family asks to respect their privacy at this time and to donate to any charity of choice in lieu of flowers. Due to restrictions of the current pandemic, there is, unfortunately, no ceremony planned at this time.
